Train Sim World Northern Trans-Pennine Metruvia Overview

Official Brand Logo of Train Sim World 2020 Northern Trans-Pennine Overview From Metruvia Simulation

The Northern Trans-Pennine route add-on for the Train Sim World series transports players back in time, simulating the challenging 43-mile British Rail line between Manchester Victoria and Leeds via Huddersfield. Set in the British Rail era of the 1980s, this content offers a distinct and demanding driving experience across the scenic, rugged terrain of Northern England.

Route Details and Features

The simulation is precisely set around 1982, capturing the infrastructure of the period. This includes a mix of colour light and older semaphore signals. Notably, the absence of modern safety systems like the Automatic Warning System (AWS) at the time makes for a more immersive and demanding drive, requiring constant vigilance from the player.

Key features of the route include:

  • Challenging Geography: The line passes through the Pennine Hills, featuring steep gradients, tight curves, and the historic Standedge Tunnel, which is over 3 miles long.
  • Gameplay Modes: Players can engage in five detailed scenarios or an extensive 24-hour timetable in Service Mode.

Included Locomotives

The add-on includes three iconic British motive powers, all in the classic BR Corporate Blue livery:

  • BR Class 45/1: An express passenger locomotive.
  • BR Class 47/4: A mixed-traffic locomotive.
  • BR Class 101: A Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU).

For players seeking more freight options, a separate BR Heavy Freight Pack DLC is available for purchase, adding scenarios and services with the BR Class 08 and Class 40 locomotives, along with relevant wagons.
