The Semmeringbahn add-on for the Train Sim World series brings the world’s first true mountain railway into the simulation experience. Available for Train Sim World 4, Train Sim World 5, and Train Sim World 6, the DLC allows players to navigate the historic, UNESCO World Heritage-listed route through the Austrian Alps.
The Route: Wiener Neustadt to Mürzzuschlag
The 68 km (42 miles) route offers varied driving experiences, featuring two distinct sections:
- A high-speed “racetrack” section along the Southern Railway (Südbahn) between Wiener Neustadt and Gloggnitz.
- The challenging, winding mountain pass section between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag, where drivers must manage steep gradients.
Alpine Scenery and Engineering
The scenery showcases a seamless blend of natural Alpine beauty and mid-19th-century engineering marvels. The route is famous for its extensive infrastructure:
- Over 100 stone bridges and 11 iron bridges.
- 16 tunnels and 14 viaducts, including the notable two-story Kalte Rinne viaduct.
- Authentic ÖBB signalling and overhead power lines.
Gameplay Modes and Included Trains
Players operate modern electric traction provided by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). The add-on includes:
Rolling Stock:
- The iconic ÖBB 1116 “Taurus” electric locomotive in the standard red livery, known for its distinctive “musical” starting notes.
- The ÖBB 4024 EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) for regional passenger services.
- Bmz Eurofima coaches and various freight wagons (Habbins, Sggmrss, Shimmns).
